A. Lawton – trainee teacher of Spanish

A key moment from my training year so far is a Spanish lesson I delivered for Y9We were learning about food and drink so I decided to change the structure of the lesson with the aim of immersing the pupils in a Spanish restaurantFor most of the lesson, I used Spanish along with visuals and gestures to provide scaffolding for the pupilsWe played Spanish music and spoke about cultural Spanish food and drink.  It was amazing to see not only how pupils engaged with the lesson but how well they understood a lesson delivered mainly in Spanish.  To hear pupils speaking the target language and engaging with the culture was a really proud moment as a language teacher.  Bringing a different world into the classroom and seeing pupils enjoy it, reminds me of how rewarding it is to be a languages teacher.
