A Unique
Training Programme

Programme Outline

All trainees will be allocated to a Home School. Trainees will start the academic year in their home school and spend most of their school-based experience time there.

All trainees will then spend time at a second placement in an enhancement placement at an away school between Christmas and February half term.

Trainees will participate in a KS5 and KS2 experience.

In addition to the directed school-based experience, all trainees will spend time at Liverpool John Moores University for subject-specific pedagogy sessions.

Trainees from across the collaborative will meet together every week (at one of our partnership schools) for SWD (School Wide Development) Training Sessions. Please note this does involve an element of travel, so being able to drive is an advantage.

All trainees will also attend compulsory teaching days at Liverpool John Moores University for direct tuition towards the PGCE worth 60 master credits.

CCRS

All trainees will complete two Catholic Certificate of Religious Studies modules during the year. The Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies (CCRS) is managed and awarded by the Board of Religious Studies on behalf of the Bishop’s Conference of England and Wales.

As part of the WWLCSD programme, we have validated a specialist double module for the CCRS.

Course Aims

To provide teachers and those involved in parish ministry and other ministry contexts with knowledge and understanding of the teaching and beliefs of the Catholic Faith.

To develop an appreciation of the principles of Catholic education at all levels.

To enable all participants to make an informed contribution to their chosen field of ministry within the Church.

CCRS Course Structure

The CCRS has eight modules: six core modules and two specialist modules.

As part of WWLCSD, you will take specialist modules that count as a double module – The Distinctive Nature of a Catholic Secondary School. This module has been validated explicitly for WWLCSD.

You will be able to study for other modules at a later date. Once registered, you have five years to complete the qualification.
