J. Newman – trainee teacher of English

One of the moments that immediately springs to mind when thinking of a success story is the method I used to inspire my Y9 class to enjoy creative writing.  Prior to this lesson, the class had struggled to grasp the concept of slowing down their writing and describing in detail when completing their narrative stories.  After reflecting and researching, I found the concept of ‘slow writing’.  I then introduced this idea into the next lesson.  The pupils responded really well to this and were really proud of the work that they produced.  I consider this a success as the students enjoyed the creative writing and were engaged in the task, which I feel is the most important part of teaching English.
